QUESTION 1: Will this service always be free for any marine repair shop to look for backordered, NLA, obsolete, and other "hard to find" parts?
ANSWER 1: Yes!
QUESTION 2: Will this service always be free for a marine repair shop with a lot of parts to include their parts in the system?
ANSWER 2: There is some work involved in hosting a service like this and maintaining the data in it. Users of the Huggins XREF inventory programs already have their parts cleaned up, tagged to a vendor, and in the correct format to easily import into the stock locator, those users get their parts included as part of their annual Huggins license. Users of other inventory control systems need to carefully read Question 7 below.
QUESTION 3: What if I am not a Huggins customer?
ANSWER 3: We really do not see how that can be. If you are a service oriented marine dealer with a lot of parts, how can you not be a Huggins Customer? Download a demo of one of the Huggins Cross Reference products and try it out. If you are not ready to purchase one of these products and join the "Marine Stock Locator", call Huggins and tell us why not. We feel like the Huggins Cross Reference products will help you research your inventory and include accurate part numbers to be included in the "Marine Stock Locator". The leading Dealer Management Systems for sale in the marine industry all interface to the Huggins Cross Reference. Any user of any Dealer Management System that is not already compatible with the Huggins Cross Reference should have their Dealer Management System contact Huggins to discuss the parts export format required to participate.
QUESTION 4: Is Huggins doing this because Evinrude's StockPro lookup is no longer supported on DealerPort?
ANSWER 4: Yes, that is one of the reasons. Some Evinrude dealers have requested a stock locator service like the previous StockPro. Huggins consulted with Evinrude on their StockPro service. Huggins had a similar service years ago called "The Huggins Parts Network" that StockPro replaced. There are other stock locators in the Marine industry.
Evinrude's StockPro was part of their DealerPort web site, so only Evinrude dealers could access it. They did allow listings of all marine industry brands. They did not allow listings for Evinrude parts that were available in their warehouses. So Evinrude's StockPro had some limitations. Several Dealer Management Systems implemented a communications feature to communicate that dealer's stock to StockPro whenever requested, usually at midnight. This required the dealer to keep their computer on 24/7. Dealers using Excel, Quickbooks, or some other Dealer Management System that did not support StockPro had no way to include their parts.
Mercury has a locator service for Mercury dealers to search for NLA and SS Mercury parts that is behind a login so that only Mercury dealers can use it. Mercury's system only allows Mercury parts to be included. The data must be cleaned up for Mercury to accept it into their NLA search database. If there are part numbers in your inventory system that Mercury does not know about, they cannot be loaded into Mercury's system. For example, if you are a Mercury dealer and you also buy some Quicksilver parts from Land'N'Sea, you have some decisions to make. If you stock 710-14-34817 then that is not going to go into MercNET's NLA database. You would need to stock 34817 in order to import it into Mercury's NLA database. If you do not have your parts with the correct part number and vendor, getting them imported into any stock locator will be tedious and time consuming. This can get technical. Any company with dashes, spaces, and letters in their part numbers is more challenging to get right.
There are other Dealer Management Systems that have a stock locator for all of the users of their system. This makes sense because the DMS company is familiar with the data format and has the software tools to combine the inventory files from multiple dealerships and make the combined database available on the internet.
The Marine Stock Locator that Huggins is hosting is more open than any of the others. Huggins accepts import files from any system as long as they are in the correct format. Huggins allows any marine industry dealer or repair shop to access their parts listings. The Huggins parts listings include currently available parts as well as NLA and obsolete parts.
QUESTION 5: How accurate is the information?
ANSWER 5: This depends on the marine dealer that is providing their inventory to Huggins. We would like to get an updated inventory from the participating dealers at least once per year in January/February/March in advance of the busy season. Some dealers send an update every month.
QUESTION 6: Why would a dealer want to participate in the service and be listed as a source of parts?
ANSWER 6: Many dealers are in the business of selling parts. This service is not restricted to parts that are "No Longer Available" or superseded. This service includes all of the parts that the participating dealers have in inventory. Backordered parts are a big reason for this service. The assumption is that these parts are for sale to customers over the phone. This service does not determine the selling price for the part or the shipping costs. This is up to the selling parts manager. The phone call to determine if the part is still available and when it can be shipped should include a discussion about the payment and dollar amount.
QUESTION 7: I'm a marine dealer and I have a lot of parts, how can I get listed as a source of parts?
ANSWER 7: You need to send your inventory information to Huggins in a specific format. Huggins does not want to spend hours cleaning up data entered by hand. You must have an inventory system that requires you to enter part numbers that match up to part numbers in the manufacturer's part files. Some part numbers have dashes, spaces, and letters. This can get technical.
Here is a list of inventory that Huggins will accept and the three character abbreviation that Huggins uses (and you are expected to use) for each company.
Not every Dealer Management System handles part numbers the same way. You must provide data formatted the way the Stock Locator expects it:

Contact Huggins for more information. All Huggins needs is the part number with the proper three character company prefix and the quantity that you have in stock. You could send it as a spreadsheet or a csv file.
Please do not send your descriptions, bin locations, notes, etc. This will just make the file that you need to email to Huggins bigger and that might make it fail to send if you have thousands of parts.
Please do not send parts with a quantity of 0 or -1 or some such inaccurate quantity. If you have this part for sale, you need to indicate the actual quantity that you have in stock.

QUESTION 8: Besides the stock listing in the proper format, what other info do you need?
ANSWER 8: Here is a list:
- Company name spelled and spaced the way you want it displayed
- Company city, state and zip code that you want listed.
- Company phone number for parts orders.
- OPTIONAL: Send us your company logo as a .jpg file if you want it to be on the home page for the locator.
- OPTIONAL: Send us your web site URL if you want your logo image linked to your web site.
QUESTION 9: What if I have three locations and three parts rooms?
ANSWER 9: We will figure it out.
Hopefully you have three phone numbers and a way to distinguish your three locations, so we could list each location with their inventory. If you would rather have a single point of contact for all three locations, we can try that; but when a call comes in looking for a part, the calling marine dealer is going to want to know pretty quick if you can locate the physical part and verify that it is for sale. Otherwise, the calling dealer is just going to call the next stocking location in the listing and verify availability there.
QUESTION 10: Should I send you part numbers that I know are superseded?
ANSWER 10: Yes, the "Marine Stock Locator" searches backwards and forwards for parts. It would be best if you have the part in inventory under it's actual part number.
Nine dealers have the part you entered, 584477. One dealer has an older version of this part.
QUESTION 11: What if my inventory is not cleaned up and ready to share?
ANSWER 11: Do not send inventory that is not accurate. Maybe next winter you can spend some time entering all of your inventory in a system and you can send it next year. Huggins sells a system with all of the part numbers, descriptions, and prices already entered. All you have to do is add your quantity.
QUESTION 12: How do you want my parts listing if I have a Sierra part that fits an Evinrude?
ANSWER 12: We want the part listed with the correct part number. If you have a Sierra 18-5199 Condenser that is a replacement for Evinrude 0580321, we would prefer that you list it this way:

If a repair shop really needs this part bad, they can search for the OEM part number and also search for all of the aftermarket part numbers. Huggins sells computer programs that cross reference from OEM to aftermarket and from aftermarket to OEM. Some dealers only want OEM parts. In this case, you would be incorrect to list your Sierra part with the Evinrude part number. Huggins sells a computer programs that will allow you to list your Sierra stock as Sierra and your Evinrude stock as Evinrude and still see all of the compatible parts when you lookup any of them.
QUESTION 13: How complete is the "Marine Stock Locator" as far as parts coverage goes?
ANSWER 13: There are 4.5 million part numbers in the marine industry that Huggins is tracking. No dealer has all of those in stock.
There are only about 400,000 parts in the "Marine Stock Locator" right now.
We just started with the "Marine Stock Locator" in early 2025. We are still adding dealers!
Mercury has about 300,000 part numbers in their price file. Yamaha has about 500,000 part numbers in their price file. That totals 800,000. Would you say you have about half of the parts covered? No, it is not that good. Keep in mind that there are a lot of parts that never break. Sierra has about 15,000 parts in their catalog. So 15,000 is a good estimate for the "Maintenance" parts that wear or break. These 15,000 parts are normally available from the OEM and from multiple aftermarket sources. If the part you need is no longer available from the OEM or from an aftermarket source, this lookup might help you find the part you need in another dealer's inventory. We have 385,000 of those parts listed; but we are far from having a listing for every part ever made.
QUESTION 14: What about used parts?
ANSWER 14: Good question! Some dealers do salvage work to keep their techs employed over the winter months breaking down engines and putting the used parts into their inventory.
SELLERS: If you have a used or dusty part that you are listing in inventory, you must accurately describe this part when a call for this part comes.
BUYERS: Be sure to ask about the part condition when calling for a part. Ask if it is "New In Box".
