The Huggins Outboard Cross Reference program provides a simple way for marine repair professionals to quickly access the information they need.
Best of all, the program is simple to use.
Simply type in the part number you want to research and retrieve the following information:

The Huggins Cross Reference program will let you enter an OEM part number to search for aftermarket sources and also you can enter an aftermarket part number to search for the OEM part numbers.

Variable Cross Reference Level - You can control how the software cross-references parts. You can ask for simple price lookup only. You can ask for direct replacement parts only. You can ask for direct replacements and OEM aftermarket links. You can ask for exhaustive aftermarket linking that will show related parts that are packaged as a kit.

The pictures displayed in the PicturePart version can be resized and even maximized to fill your computer screen making it easier for you to identify part characteristics.

Hover Tips - Simply hover your mouse over areas of the program and usage tips will appear to help you.

We have added QPD (Quick Parts Distributor) codes for all of the Mercury part numbers. These QPD codes allow you to identify weather or not a Mercury part number is available from a QPD distributor, such as Land'N'Sea. Please note that Mercury parts with QPD=T can be purchased by anyone. Mercury Marine parts with QPD=M can only be purchased by authorized Mercury dealers.

Font Controls - Customize the display to suit your personal taste as well as your computer hardware.

After researching a part number, you can print the results of your search by exporting the information to the windows notepad program. If the search listing does not print properly on a single sheet of paper, you might need to change the font that notepad uses. Inside notepad, click on Edit, then click on Set Font and change the font to a smaller sized font. Notepad works best with a monospaced font.

Users of Mercury Marine's EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog) software can click on a part and get the Huggins Cross Reference information thru EPC. To set up this capability, first run Mercury's EPC. Inside EPC, click on the Edit menu item. Click on Preferences. Click on the DMS tab. In the View Stock Program box, type c:\huggins\xrefwin.exe and then click save. Now, look up a part the way you normally do using EPC. Right click the part number and choose the View List Price or View Dealer Price options. The Huggins Cross Reference System will pop up with the proper part number displayed.

If you would like to print or save the parts information on the screen, simply click File and then Export. The results from your Huggins Cross Reference search will appear in windows Notepad. In notepad, click File and Print to print the information displayed. In notepad, click File and Save to save the exported information.

Click File and then Exit to close the Huggins Cross Reference Software.

This option toggles the display of the dealer cost field in the cross-reference information box.
The cost field can be turned on or off, depending on your needs.
Next time you start the program, your choice for this setting will be remembered.

This option toggles the display of the dealer list field in the cross-reference information box.
The list price can be turned on or off, depending on your needs.
Next time you start the program, your choice for this setting will be remembered.

This option allows the program to automatically adjust the font used based on the window width. When you adjust the width of the window down to a small size, the program will automatically choose a font small enough to display the cross reference information. When you adjust the width of the window up to a bigger size, the program will automatically choose a larger font so the information fits inside the window. Depending on your computer hardware, you may need to adjust the font properties in order to have the cross-reference information displayed properly on you computer. If you are using Large Fonts on your Windows system (Properties/Settings/Advanced/Display), you will need to uncheck Automatic fonts and manually resize the window to display the cost and list information on the right side of your screen.

This setting allows you to adjust the size of the font used by the program.
Users with smaller monitors may find it useful to use a larger font in order to make the information displayed easier to see.
Please note that your computer system may not support all of the available size options available. If you choose a size that would cause information to be lost off the right side of the window, the program will automatically change to a size that will fit properly. If you want manual control of the font size and window size, uncheck the Automatic fonts setting.

This setting allows you to adjust the font used by the program.
Like the Font Size option, you may find that one font is easier to read than another.
We encourage you to try the various fonts available.
Use the one that is easiest for you to read.
If the Andale font is not currently installed on your system, you can download it for free from Microsoft's typography web site at http://www.microsoft.com/typography/downloads/andale32.exe.

This setting allows you to adjust the font in use between a Normal setting or Bold setting.
Please keep in mind that your computer may or may not support bold characters in all font sizes.

The Font dialog option allows you to choose any font supported by Microsoft Windows.
The program was designed to use a monospace font.
Some fonts work better than others.
In addition to Courier New, Lucida Sans Typewriter, and Andale Mono, we suggest you try Lucida Console, Arial Alternative, Terminal, and Fixedsys. There are a number of sources for additional fonts on the internet. Try Microsoft's typography web site at http://www.microsoft.com/typography/free.htm for more free fonts.
If you have trouble with this font dialog, we recommend that you click the Automatic Font option and choose Courier as your Font type.

Xref Level
This option defines the depth of the cross-reference information returned when a user enters a part number.
-
Level 0: Catalog Lookup. The part number you enter is searched for pricing information. No cross-references are displayed.
-
Level 1: Direct Links Only. This is the default setting. The program only returns direct alternates for the part number entered.
-
Level 2: Follow all OEM to OEM Links. The program returns cross-reference information for direct replacements as well as alternate parts found by following OEM to OEM links for the number entered.

Level 3: Show related parts, kits, etc. The program returns cross-reference information for any after-market replacement part. Many aftermarket parts are packaged in kits that may or may not have a direct OEM counterpart. The level 3 setting provides the most comprehensive cross-reference information, however it is recommended that only experienced parts personnel use this setting.
A Note on the XREF LEVEL option:
All Users should keep in mind that when using the Huggins Cross Reference program the results displayed after looking up a part number are sorted from top to bottom by part relevance. A user who is using the Level 1 setting to cross-reference an OEM prop nut will see only replacements for the part number entered. A user who is using the Level 3 setting to cross-reference the same prop nut will see direct replacement parts and related parts. (i.e.: Cotter pin, thrust washer, etc.) These related results are displayed because many of the aftermarket companies package parts in kits.

This setting allows users to toggle the pictures on or off. Please note that pictures are available during the system demo and with the licensed copy of the PicturePart version of the Huggins Cross Reference software. This setting allows users to automatically crop pictures that are displayed with the PicturePart version of the software. By selecting this option, the windows that the pictures are displayed in automatically adjust in size to best suit the image being displayed. We recommend that users use this option in order to conserve desktop space used by the program.

This setting allows user to quickly adjust how images are displayed without having to move the pictures individually. The Huggins Cross Reference software program contains thousands of image files, and the likelihood of you having multiple images displayed after looking up a part number is very good. By setting the Tile Pictures option, these images will be spaced according to your personal preference each time multiple images are displayed.

This setting allows users to set a predefined size for each image that is displayed. Users with larger monitors can set the image size larger, whereas a user with a smaller monitor might want the images displayed in a smaller size. We recommend that you experiment with this setting in order to find the image size that best suits your needs and personal preference.

The Help option displays important information about the aftermarket vendors included in the cross reference software. This includes the three character vendor prefixes. These prefixes are sometimes necessary when two companies have the exact same part number. We have also added QPD (Quick Parts Distributor) codes for all of the Mercury part numbers. Q: Why can't I read all of the information displayed in the programs results window?

A: You have selected a Font \ Size combination that is incompatible with your computer hardware. Click the "Automatic Font" selection found under the VIEW menu. Choose the Courier or Courier New font. Try resizing your window. Try different font sizes.
